Academic Year 2016-2017: Full Steam Ahead
Currently, our Digital Ambassador program is fully integrated and works collaboratively with our campus technology unit, the CI Teaching & Learning Innovations unit to explore new technology applications in teacher preparation. The Digital Ambassador Program will continue to partner with this campus unit to support and provide ongoing professional growth of faculty through the process of designing and developing engaging, humanized online and blended learning experiences. Our technology workshops are offered in face-to-face, blended, and online modalities and are aligned with the CSU Quality in Online Learning and Teaching (QOLT) rubric. This active partnership of our digital ambassador project and established CI Teaching & learning Innovation unit, allows for a sustainable and high-quality training program providing efficient and seamless professional development that is technology-based and pedagogically sound.
Our goal for the 2016-2017 academic year is to train School of Education and multi-disciplinary faculty who support and prepare teacher candidates in the integration of technology, with particular emphasis on using digital tools to create engaging, creative, collaborative academic lessons that require critical thinking in a variety of disciplines for candidates in our Multiple and Single-Subject credential programs. Our goal is to train at least 50% of the faculty who directly teach academic and pedagogical methods courses in the areas of reading-language arts, math, science, and history-social studies and in the Early Childhood and Special Education divisions.
To date, in our small, but cohesive program, there are nine School of Education faculty members, including the Dean of the School of Education, credential faculty, and faculty in the Early Childhood and Special Education divisions, who have completed the blended and/or online teaching training program. Stipends are paid to faculty members who complete either or both the Blended or Online teaching modules. Below is a description of each of the programs.

Blended Teaching & LearningOur Blended Teaching and Learning Program (BTLP) is focused on improving student learning through creating meaningful engagement in the online and face-to-face environment. Blended learning at CI is defined as courses that offer 30%-70% of class time in an online environment. Training utilizes information and resources available online and combines it with active, engaged learning in the classroom.
Faculty participating in BLPP learn about course design, digital tools and pedagogy for facilitating a blended learning experience. Participants work and collaborate during facilitated face-to-face BLPP sessions and online to design blended learning courses that support student engagement. Classes meet face-to-face four days, with 5 hour sessions coupled with 25% online learning experiences. As a result of participating in BLPP, faculty will...

Online Teaching & LearningOur Online Teaching & Learning Program (OTLP) engage faculty in an immersive, fully online learning experience, providing valuable insight on the student learning experience. The OTPP curriculum is aligned with the CI Quality in Online Learning and Teaching (QOLT) rubric, adapted from the research-based CSU-QOLT.
Completing the three OTPP online classes prepares faculty to design and facilitate an engaging online course enhanced with human presence, as well as dynamic student-student and faculty-student interactions. There are 3 courses in the CI Online Teaching Preparation Program that are offered each semester to faculty. Classes:
